DEGREE1. BUSINESS INFORMATION TECHNOLOGYThe world economy is facing digital transformation, where different stages of economic activities and processes become digital and data is becoming a new commodity. Availability of data and Data Analytics open new business opportunities and enable the digital transformation of enterprises. We are also facing the appearance of smart, connected products and digital service ecosystems, which transform the competitive environment and business processes. Data is the cornerstone of the ongoing digital transformation and the role of Data Analytics is getting increasingly important.
Data Analytics specialists help businesses understand the importance of data and utilize data efficiently. The focus of this Degree Programme is on preparing specialists, who have technical skills working with data sets but also understand how Data Analytics contributes to the business development. During the studies, you will learn different methods of working with data, special software packages and technologies. Moreover, this educational program is focusing on teaching relevant programming, statistics, and machine learning skills.
STRUCTURE OF THE DEGREE Structure and syllabus of the studiesThe DP BIT has the following overall curriculum structure:
1) Basic and Professional Studies 150 ECTS
2) Practical Training 30 ECTS
3) Electives 10 ECTS
4) Bachelor's Thesis 20 ECTS (including Research and Development Methods)
The objectives of Basic Studies include providing you with essential knowledge and skills required in operations of the digital enterprise with the focus on Data Analytics. Basic Studies build up theoretical knowledge and practical skills in the focus area to provide necessary background for professional studies. Additionally, you are provided with the language skills required by the Polytechnic Act, 1129/2014, 25 §.
The objectives of Professional Studies include providing you with specialized knowledge and skills essential for a Data Analytics specialist:
- Data Analytics tools and methods
- Data visualization
- Data modelling, quality control, and validation
- Development of Data Analytics services
- Programming for Data Analytics
- Cloud computing and architecture
- Machine learning and Artificial Intelligence
All studies follow a problem-based approach and include development projects where you combine and apply professional competencies.
Practical Training offers you an opportunity to apply the professional competencies in the working life context. In addition, you become familiar with the enterprise environment, practices, Data Analytics solutions and their business use. You also learn more about different Data Analytics tasks.
Electives contribute to your personal development by supplementing mandatory studies with subjects of your own interest and personal preferences. You can take elective modules from other degree programmes and/or other higher education institutions. Finally, in the Bachelor's Thesis project you apply professional competencies to conduct research and development work according to the chosen specialisation.
IMPLEMENTATION AND EVALUATION OF THE STUDIESThis degree program utilizes both contact and distance teaching methods. Our educational methodology includes supervised, independent and blended learning.
